Lisa Mittler
Hoofcare Practitioner
Texas, USA
Lisa Mittler is a Hoof Care Practitioner serving South and Central Texas. Owner of Bare and Balanced Hoofcare, she operates with a mission to enact lasting change in The Horse by empowering guardians to understand hoof health as it relates to The Whole Horse.
Lisa has extensive knowledge and experience rehabilitating hooves affected by a number of issues to include: founder/laminitis, navicular, under-run heels and long toes, caudal hoof collapse and improper shoeing/trimming induced pathologies.
Lisa is a certified FormaHoof applicator and well-versed in fitting multiple brands of hoof boots. She is a firm believer and user of composite shoes and hoof boots during the hoof rehab process. Lisa is also extremely passionate and educated in other areas that directly affect horse’s hooves, such as: complete equine nutrition, Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS), Insulin Resistance (IR), PPID and equine biomechanics. Her love of learning, as well as always putting the horse first, is evident in the amount of time she puts into continuing education courses each year and her desire to constantly work to figure out the “why” behind hoof pathology.
In 2024, Lisa completed the Advanced Podiatry Program through Equine Podiatry Creative Solutions, which included 135 hours of advanced concepts in distal limb biomechanics, nutrition, applied farriery, Metron radiology software and distal limb radiology. She is an Intermediate Student Practitioner with Progressive Hoof Care Providers (PHCP) and has also earned her certification in Applied Whole Horse Hoof-Care from Ida Hammer - a well-respected hoof trimmer, educator and consultant.
Lisa also has a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and a Master’s degree in Art Education. As a result of her 15 years in the classroom as an art teacher, Lisa naturally defaults to her desire to educate any chance she gets. Working as a hoof care practitioner allows her to meld her many passions together - horses, science, art and sculpture. Her dedication to the horse and passion for the work she does becomes evident the moment you meet her.

Discussion of your horse’s lifestyle, diet, housing, previous injuries, metabolic issues, etc, to pinpoint any potential issues affecting hoof health
Discussion of your horse’s radiographs and/or metabolic bloodwork, if applicable*
One-on-one lessons about hooves on any topic you are interested in, possible topics include: general anatomy, hoof mapping, when to boot, shoe or leave bare, help looking at radiographs, how to photograph your horse’s hooves and basic trimming how-to.
I am happy to answer any and all questions you have during a consultation, beyond what is listed above. Think of me as your hoof tutor!
*I am not a vet, therefore, I do not diagnose conditions or pathology. Radiographs are used to assess bony column alignment and other angles within the distal limb. Metabolic bloodwork is used to determine whether or not insulin and/or ACTH could be affecting the integrity of the horse’s lamina based on current research.
